Revd Alex Designs and Builds a "Human Christingle" and what an amazing site it was!

The Christingle under construction following

Revd Alex's expert directions!

A very heavy frost was on the ground last Sunday, everything was totally white and the temperature was about -3C outside. Winter was really setting in! But more was to come, as I sit here late Sunday evening typing up this report, I casually looked out of the window, and what do I see? Yes, snow has also arrived for the first time this winter. Will this lead to a white Christmas I wonder? We will see, as it’s not too far away now to the day everybody looks forward to, to brighten up our winter blues. I was unable to go to the morning service this Sunday but I later asked a colleague about the service and if many made it on that frosty morning. I was pleased to hear that about 40 adults were there and, 6 children!

In the afternoon, we held our Christingle service with more than 30 children present to enjoy this lovely service, presented by the Rev Alex who explained the elements of the Christingle by building a giant size Christingle from Human Beings! This caused much amusement with all present, but it was a good way to get the message across to the younger people!

Next Sunday morning, December 18th, the service will be a Holy Communion “Treasure Box” service to be given by our Rector, the Revd Alex Wheatley. If the Children come along again next week, they will be able to try this service which is aimed at helping children understand the different parts of the Holy Communion service by matching small toy like objects in the treasure box, with a special service guide book, so it would be good to see this service working as it was designed, viz, helping children understand Holy Communion.

Thought for the Day on BigglesFM.

The next “Thought for the Day” given by our organist, Nick Wilson, will be on December 23rd at 8.15am on BigglesFM when the presenter, Alan Waring will once more speak to Nick about what is happening in St Mary’s Church and there is no doubt that there will be a Christmas air about it with all our services over the Christmas holiday being promoted by Nick. However, I expect the sequence will end with the usual comedy banter that always happens. Find them on 104.8Mhz on the FM dial on your radio.

Christmas Parish Lunch

The lunch in aid of St John’s Hospice at Moggerhanger is on December 16th, but please do not turn up unless you have a ticket as there are no longer tickets available. Sixty tickets have been sold and we are looking forward to a really delicious lunch from our dedicated catering team. Next month on the Parish Lunch day, January 27th, we will be presenting representatives from St John’s with a large cheque for this year’s contribution to their cause.
