The week at St Mary's and the Benefice

Last Sunday, the Morning Service of Holy Communion with Holy Baptism, was conducted by the Rev Canon Lyndsay Dew, former Vicar of Dunton and Biggleswade area Rural Dean. The Baptism of Baby Hugo was preceded by a short sermon which cleverly led into the Baptism and the Rev Lindsay invited the whole of the congregation to join the family around the font to be a part of the service to welcome Hugo into the Church. It was a lovely service all round and perhaps a slightly different approach with the total integration of the Baptism into the Holy Communion service in a manner which was enjoyed by all present. Next Sunday, it is our popular Friends and Family intergenerational activity service, th

This week at St Mary's Church

On Friday, it is our Parish Lunch in aid of St John’s Hospice at Moggerhangar, organised by the Potton Support Group, sponsored by St Mary’s Church. There should be places available so why not come along and enjoy a delicious home cooked meal from a menu which offers 6 choices and a dessert for only £7. Raffle. This is a very friendly event held to raise much needed funds for our local Hospice. Last Sunday, the morning service was Holy Communion with one of our regular visiting Priests, the Rev Gillian Orpin. Meanwhile, the search for a new incumbent continues but it will be sometime before we get to the interviewing stage. However, it is good to know that we are getting plenty of support fr

The Week in our Benefice

The Morning Service last Sunday was the monthly shorter format Holy Communion, especially designed for children to understand about taking Communion by comparing items in their treasure boxes with what happens during elements of the actual service. The visiting Priest this week was the Rev Margaret Marshall who spoke of the Lost, and losing things during her interesting sermon. Next Sunday, the morning service is Holy Communion with the Rev Gillian Orpin. Later last Sunday, Potton’s Annual Civic Service, conducted by our Associate Priest, the Rev Barbara Johnson, was held to thank and praise the work of the Town and District Councils and Councillors in and around Potton, the Emergency Servic

On Friday 13th (!), we welcome our church Organist, Nick Wilson to the local airwaves as he is giving his “Thought for the Day” at 8.15am on BigglesFM, 104.8 on the dial. Nick has some great stories and anecdotes and is well worth listening to! Last Sunday, the Morning Service was conducted by a visiting Priest, the Rev Dr Ray Porter. He gave a very interesting sermon on slavery, something that has been happening since the human race began, it seems! He spoke mainly about slavery in Biblical times and how slaves were treated by their masters. An ugly piece of history, but still happening in this day and age of course. Next Sunday, the Morning Service will be the shorter format Holy Communion

Murder Mystery Night 20th/21st September

Welcome to Egypt! The year is 1934 at an archaeological dig in ancient Medamud, 5 miles north east of Luxor. An archaeologist, Peter Pox, has just unearthed the ancient tomb of Amentathat, reportedly the 15th king of the 13th Dynasty of ancient Egypt. Unfortunately, Peter died before he had the chance to announce it to the world. The local workmen have run away leaving only family and colleagues at the site. Luckily, the famous detective Hercules Poirot happens to be on hand following a recent trip up the River Nile. He invites you to help him solve the murders and uncover the culprit. Join us for an evening of fun and mystery, whilst supporting both Potton Hall for All and St Mary's Church.

Friends and Family Service, September 1st.

The Autumn season started last Sunday with our popular Friends and Family service conducted by Churchwarden Wendy and assisted by the children, as always. The theme this week was “On Being Humble”. The church music group led by Nick on the Flute, provide all the music throughout the service. Morning Prayer was led by David Kilpatick for those who wanted a more formal service but for everyone else, the usual craft tables were ready for many different ideas. Recently, the outcome of many weeks work produced at this service was a large WELCOME banner, now visible when coming into church through the newly rebuilt main porch and door. The banner makers are now working on a new project which we wi
