The coming week at St Mary's Church

Next Sunday the Morning Service will be the ever popular Friends and Family intergenerational activity service. This is usually a well attended service which has crafts and toys for the children, more crafts for the adults and Morning Prayer for those who are looking for something a little more formal. Refreshments are served throughout the service. The theme next Sunday is “Go on your way” which may be a reference to the fact that the Rev Gill will soon be leaving us as she retires. All are very welcome to come to our “serious but fun” type of service for all. At 7.30pm, our monthly NightLight service of prayer, music and quiet reflection, will be held. Morning Prayer services will be held

Last week in St Mary's Church, Services and Events

Last Friday, the Rev Gill Smith gave her last “Thought for the Day” on BigglesFM before she retires. Alan Waring, the station owner, asked Gill many questions about her time in Potton and what it had meant to her during the 10 years she has been with us. Mainly it was friendship and love from the many people she has come to know which she gave as the most important factors but there were many other things which will always remain in her thoughts about the town as she leaves us. The service last Sunday was Holy Communion with the Rev Gill Smith and this week instead of the Choir leading the hymn singing, it was St Mary’s own little music group with the Wilson family leading the congregation.

Many people in the Parish know Gill well, either as regular members of St Mary’s or through family occasions in the church, weddings, baptisms or funerals, or at one of the many social events we have held where Gill and Bob have always been deeply involved. Gill’s last service will be on July 14th at 10.30am, and this will be followed by a special

Services and other Events at St Mary's this week

The morning service last Sunday was our Family and Friends intergenerational activity service and the theme this time was based on a new book called Meadow Farm Band, written by Liz Price, one of our church members. This told the story of musical farm animals, and a Fox but who hadn’t thought to play together as a band, until organised by a Robin. It was all about building friendships, something the world could do with more of, friendships between nations. The morning service at 10.30am next Sunday is Choral Holy Communion with the theme of “Thy Kingdom Come”. All are very welcome. St Mary's Church Summer Banquet

The weekend at St Mary’s Church got off to a brilliant start. On Saturday evening we had our annual Summer Banquet, our most formal event of the year, formal maybe but fun it was as well with an excellent 6 course menu with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. As usual, this was prepared and served by our expert team of Chefs and their helpers. As with all our events, the evening was to raise funds for church improvement projects. Pictures of the evening and the menu card, can be seen on St Mary’s Facebook page. Our thanks go to all those who prepared the evening and made it such a success.
