This week's Happenings in the Benefice

Not too much going on this week, it's the quiet period after Christmas but we hope you all had a good time and hopefully enjoyed some of our Christmas Services. The Midnight Eucharist conducted by Bishop Richard on Christmas Eve was well attended and it was a lovely service. Thanks to Bishop Richard for stepping in to run the service this year. The programme for this week is a bit uncertain as there are several errors on the current Sunday link. I cad definitely say there is no Choir practice on Thursday and no First Steps on Friday, but if you do normally attend other events that are shown as being on, please check with appropriate organiser before turning up. We're sorry about the confusio

This Week's News in the Benefice

We were sad to learn of the recent passing of a Potton resident and a former Potton resident. Julia Bylett lived in Potton for many years and was an active member of St Mary's Singers Choral Society. In recent years, Julia and her husband Ray, helped with the early training of Assistance Dogs for disabled people and they were often to be seen around town with a dog in a special coat announcing the training project. Julia's funeral is on Thursday at 11.30am at St Mary's Church. John Burnett used to live just opposite the Church, next to the Church Hall. He was a member of the Methodist Church but often attended St Mary's with his late wife Christine as she was a member of St Mary's. He moved

This week in our Churches

On Friday 13th of December, we welcome our church organist, Nick Wilson to the local airwaves as he is giving his Christmas “Thought for the Day” at 8.15am on BigglesFM, 104.8 on the dial. Nick has some great stories and anecdotes and is well worth listening to! Last Sunday was a service of Choral Holy Communion led by the Rev Canon Lyndsay Dew once more. In the afternoon that most popular children’s service, Christingle, took place, led by Rdr Simon Gutteridge. In his talk, Simon suggested that the Christingle could be made out of other objects rather than the orange, candle and sweets and the traditional red band round the middle. But the children would not accept that a pineapple with a

The Diocesan Christmas Film Choir Wars - Battle of the Carol Singers

The Diocesan Christmas film (Choir Wars - Battle of the Carol Singers) was released today. In the film two choirs discover that it takes more than great singing to spread Christmas joy. The idea is to promote the film as widely as possible on social media and websites in order to reach those who currently have little or no contact with the church. Our aim is for many thousands of people to view the film and be encouraged to attend a Carol or Christmas service near them. You can now watch and download the film - You can find it on Twitter - here (Link to follow) You can find it on Facebook - here (Link to follow)

Friends and Family service for Advent

Today was our Friends and Family service, preparing for Advent and Christmas. The service started with Wendy telling a story of a little donkey that found a baby sleeping in his manger when he went for his feed. He was not too pleased! After the first part of the service was over, activities started with all sorts of decorations being made for the Christmas Tree and other parts of the church. One of the main tasks today was to produce in double quick time, a "JOY TO THE WORLD" banner and this took many pairs of hands and was finished and displayed towards the end of the service. It was good to see so many people come along today and everyone joined in and enjoyed our service with a differe
