We're into Advent, now the the Fun Begins! But don't forget the true story of Christmas!!

Winter is starting to show that it’s on the way, it’s cold, there has been some frost, nothing too drastic yet but the forecasters keep mentioning the “S” word, yes, snow will probably be on the way soon! However, we won’t worry too much about the weather because this Sunday we have our popular “Friends and Family” service, the one service in the year that the children really look forward to because this one is all about preparing for Christmas of course. There will be a warm welcome for all in St Mary’s to get Advent underway with this lovely children’s service. The first part of the service will be a Christmassy story, probably involving that naughty pet sheep Baaaartholemew, belonging to our Rector, the Revd Alex Wheatley. We will sing some children’s carols, always a favourite with the children and their families. If you have been before, come along with your children and grandchildren to join in. Once the stories and carols are over, then it’s the craft session taking over and this week, there will be Christmas decorations on the agenda, for home use or decorating the church Christmas Tree which will also happen that morning. It should be a fun time for all, but also once more remembering what Christmas really means, so please come and join us, this important day, the start of Advent, on the Church Calendar. Refreshments are served during the craft session.

There are many other events coming up in the run up to Christmas so pick up a printed list produced by the Revd Alex to give a broad view of what is on over the next month. For instance, music lovers will find a good selection of Christmas music sung by several local choirs and music groups, so take your choice and enjoy the singing talents of these local singers and musicians. And don’t forget that on Saturday afternoon, Potton’s Christmas Lights will be switched at a big gathering in the Market Square, when Father Christmas will arrive on his unique transport, to get the festivities underway, and with singing led by school and local singers, with all the favourites!
