Coronavirus - everything cancelled!

Thanks to the Coronavirus, all events in St Mary’s Church have been cancelled. This includes all the following regular events: Sunday, Sunday Services throughout the Benefice, including the Deanery Lent Talk Monday, Monday Housegroup Tuesday, Tuesday Housegoup, Bell Ringers practice Thursday, Choir practice Special Lent Housegroup Friday, First Steps, the Parish Lunch, the Sutton Friday Service There are not likely to be any traditional Easter services this year. Our church organist, Nick Wilson will be on BigglesFM as usual on Friday at 8.15am, 108.4 on the dial. Nick will have any up to date news on the situation so please listen out or him. Church Services Suspended

It is with deep regret that the Church Wardens inform you that, following the Church of England's directive, all public worship is suspended until further notice, Although there will be no services, St Mary's will remain open as usual for personal reflection and contemplation. Meanwhile, we encourage parishioners, and our visitors, to take advantage of the daily worship resources available on the Church of England's official website www.churchofengland.org

Flash News. Next week's Parish Lunch cancelled

You probably won't be surprised to hear that next week's charity lunch has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. If you usually come or meet friends there, please pass on this message. We will be back sometime in future weeks when things get back to normal. Also known to be cancelled: The Craft and Chatter Group will not meet during the restrictions. The Church Choir will not practice or take part in services. Potton History Society meeting next week. Others will be notified as they are announced but it seems likely that any closed events will be cancelled for a while.

On Friday 27th March at 8-15am, our Church Organist, Nick Wilson, will be back on air from BigglesFM, 104.8 on the dial, for his next fortnightly “Thought for the Day” and other church news. More advance news for Friday 27th March. All being well, we will be holding the next Parish Lunch in aid of St John’s Hospice at Mogerhanger. This may of course have to be called off if the Government should ban such gatherings because of the Coronavirus problem. We will keep you informed about this when we know. This week in the Benefice

Last Friday evening, we held a “Friday the 13th" themed quiz and there was a very good attendance with 8 teams competing for the prize at the end. A hot meal of chilli or goulash, with rice, was served up and most people were able to try both dishes as there was plenty of food for the occasion. The proceeds for the evening as always, go towards church funds. Next month, the Events Team are organising a Shakespearian Evening, to celebrate the Bards birthday. It was hoped we would be announcing the appointment soon for our new Rector but unfortunately out of the two candidates that applied, one had already found another post and the other one was found not to be suitable and the lady concerne

This Friday 13th March, St Mary’s Events Team present a Friday the 13th Quiz. Everything happening tonight revolves around the number 13 so why not come along to the Church Hall at 7.00pm, pay £13 on the door, and enjoy a quiz with a difference. Come and join in the fun of exercising your brain cells whilst tantalising your taste buds at our "Friday 13th" themed quiz evening. Gather your team of up to 4 people and see how lucky you will be!! Prizes for the Top Team. Enjoy a pot of Chilli or Goulash, and a few cheeky tipples in the company of friends. We will also have a bar supplying beer, wine and soft drinks. No need to bring your own! This week in the Benefice

The service last Sunday morning was our ever popular Friends and Family activity service with the theme of this week’s World Day of Prayer, an initiative led by the Mother’s Union. The service was led by Rosemary, our Mother’s Union leader at St Mary’s. Everyone present was given a paper leaf to write their prayer for the world on and then hang it on a small tree. The result was many different prayers, many different thoughts. The craft theme for the day followed on with the children making window decorations to decorate the plain window in church.
