An Important Notice for First Steps Members

Happy Times at First Steps

For some, the summer holidays are over, but many will go for a later one which often offer better value. It has also been a very mixed holiday weather-wise this year with a very hot June, then a lot of rain and now it can’t seem to make up it’s mind so maybe we will get an “Indian Summer” during September. In St Mary’s there was quite a holiday feel about our activities last Sunday as it was our Patronal Festival Day and for those who do not know what this is about, it is a celebration of the assumed birth date of Saint Mary. It celebrates her lifetime, her motherhood of Jesus and how she became a Saint eventually. Our day therefore celebrated much that is known about Mary and these celebrations are held in St Mary’s Churches all over the world. Our church today, included members of our Benefice churches from Sutton and Cockayne Hatley, who came to share Holy Communion with us, altogether a lovely service conducted by the Rector, The Revd Alex Wheatley. Following our Patronal Day Service, we had a well attended Patronal Day Barbecue but with the food cooked outside and eaten in the church hall due to the doubtful nature of the weather, although as it happened, it stayed dry and the Sun eventually came out! The amazing spread was prepared by Paul, Bea and Mike to whom we give our thanks.

Next week, the Revd Alex will conduct our Holy Communion but with the Treasure Boxes available during the service, a service scheme we have explained previously but which helps newcomers to Holy Communion, to understand the elements of this service.

First Steps, Important Notice. The usual First Steps format, will change a little over the next few weeks. The Friday meetings for the 1st and 8th September will not take place, but all other dates will be as normal, every Friday at 9.30am. However, the sessions will only be available for the First Steps Members, so sorry, but older children cannot be catered for during this summer period, the facilities will not allow for school age children. Call Sandy on 01767 260430 for more information.
