Another Visitor this week, to give the Lesson at St Mary's and St John's

The Congregation Listening intently to the Guest Speaker!

The very popular service aimed at our wonderful bunch of children, our future Parishioners, was again well attended today with a lovely service this month. This of course was our Friends and Family service, always the first service of the month and enjoyed by everyone, not just the children! Today our service was led by Rdr Simon and LLW Dawn and their theme for the day was Candlemas, the Light of the World. This follows from the days when Jesus Christ was always known as that, the Light of the World and it is name for him that’s been used for over 2000 years. Today, we had the children making candles out of card and celluloid paper which with a small light placed behind, would become a good representation of a real candle, a Light for the World in the name of Jesus. As well as children’s projects, many of the ladies, (and sometimes some of the men!) pick up a pair of knitting needles or a crochet hook, and make squares of brightly coloured wool which eventually are made into blankets. Today we were shown the latest batch of blankets, and these were Blessed by Rdr Simon and this week they will be presented to the Potton View Care Home near Gamlingay. A new needlework project is also under way by our talented ladies who are making another banner to add to the large welcome banner they have already made.

Next Sunday, February 12th, the service will be Holy Communion led by the Revd Alex Wheatley, but we will also be pleased to welcome a Guest Preacher at St. Mary’s and St. John the Baptist churches and this week we welcome Padre Terry Wright of Chicksand’s RAF Station who will come and preach for us and tell us a bit about his work as a chaplain. In earlier years of course, our former Curate in the Benefice, the Revd David Smith, was also the Chaplain at Chicksands. All are welcome to come and listen to Revd Terry and hear about his rôle.

In the evening, our monthly service of music, prayer, stories and quiet contemplation and thought, will be held in St. Mary’s Church, starting at 7.15pm with refreshments. All are very welcome to this service with a difference

Thought for the Day on BigglesFM. The next “Thought for the Day” given by our organist, Nick Wilson, will be on February 10th at 8.15am on BigglesFM when the presenter, Alan Waring will once more speak to Nick about what is happening in St Mary’s Church and Nick will be giving details of future events and services in the near future. The next time Nick will be talking to Alan is on February 24th. Find them on 104.8Mhz on the FM dial on your radio.
