We are now in the Season of Lent

The weather was a little mixed this morning but there was a good attendance to the morning service of Choral Holy Communion led by our Rector, the Revd Alex Wheatley. In his sermon, Revd Alex spoke of Jesus prepared for his coming death, in the period we now call Lent. All his followers were briefed by Jesus in what they should do, after he was tortured to death on the Cross, as he laid out his plan for those coming weeks leading up to Easter, as we know it these days.

Next Sunday, being the first Sunday of the Month, we have our favourite service, Friends and Families, loved by all age groups with a different theme every month. The theme for the service on March 5th will be of course, Lent. All the stories, children’s hymns and practical projects, will reflect the theme and at the same time it will help to teach the children what Lent really is all about. All are welcome to join us for this lovely service.

Mothers Union World Day of Prayer

Friday, 3rd March - St Mary's Church Hall -2.30pm.

The service has been written by the women of Taiwan. This used to be the Women's World Day of Prayer but it is now for everyone. Please come and listen about the lives of Christians in Taiwan. The service will be followed by refreshments.

Social events. Just a reminder that we have the Irish Night with a quiz and good food, coming along very soon, March 18th in fact, and it should be a really good evening once more. The evening starts at 7pm for 7.30pm when the quiz will start. Teams of 4 to 6 are needed so why not book a table with your friends? Tickets cost £15 pp, pay on the door on arrival. To be sure to get your tickets, call Rosemary on 07753 638278 or use the sign up sheet in St Mary’s. Cost will include a two course Irish meal and there will be a Bar available.

Other social events are planned as the weeks go on, so watch this space, or find us on Facebook.
