This Week in our Church
After last week’s announcement about the future installation of our new Rector, it’s all gone very quiet as we re-enter the waiting game, waiting for a start date when the Rev Alex Wheatley will be able to join us. We will just have to be patient and hope that it is not too far off!
This Friday, 23rd, we welcome back to the local airwaves our church organist, Nick Wilson who will be bringing his Thought for the Day and other church news when he pays a “virtual” visit by telephone to the BigglesFM Studios at 8.15am. Tune in on 104.8 on the dial! Nick often has some good anecdotes to tell us as well and is quite interesting to listen to.
The morning service last Sunday was a Service of the Word for the Harvest Festival. This year we did not bring any produce to church, perhaps not good practice during the COVID pandemic. Instead we had a slide show illustrated talk given by Rdr Simon Gutteridge in support of the scheme to help people in Nepal develop a bee and honey industry. The scheme introduced to our Diocese by the Bishop of St Albans, invites parishioners to make a donation to support this worthwhile scheme. Follow this link for details of the scheme: https://www.stalbans.anglican.org/faith/bishop-s-annual-harvest-appeal/
The service at St Mary’s next Sunday Morning will be Holy Communion at 10.30am once more led by one of our friendly retired priests. All are welcome
St Mary’s is open for private prayer on Monday, Thursday and Sunday of each week. Please follow the advice given in church for visitors regarding Covid-19 restrictions. Possible bookings for weddings, baptisms and funerals may be made by calling the church office on 01767 261202 or email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. Over the last two weekends, we have held our first two weddings since Lockdown was introduced in March, so we are definitely ready for more bookings to be made. The Church Hall will soon be available for bookings once more but if you have a future date in mind, please ring 01767 260430 to enquire availability.
