This week in our Benefice, with Fireworks on November 6th in St Mary's Field

Our Fireworks in 2019

Sunday was a busy day for our Rector, the Rev Alex Wheatley, he conducted three services at St Mary’s and one at Sutton. The Morning Service at St Mary’s had no music and singing this week as members of the Choir and our organist, Nick Wilson were deployed to Sutton church to lead the singing for their Patronal Festival service. Back at St Mary’s we had a word only service of Holy Communion. In the afternoon, the Rev Alex was back in action with the annual All Souls Service, a lovely service intended to help us remember lost family members and others that had gone before us. A long list of names was read out and candles were lit in remembrance but the congregation this year was quite small, something we didn’t understand unless it was people staying away because of Covid. Otherwise the service jointly conducted by the Rev Alex and Rdr Simon was well received by those present.

Next week, the Morning Service sees our second Friends and Family service of this year, this time with the theme of Remembrance. With the Remembrance Day the following Sunday, this is a good introduction to the children of what Remembrance really means. On Remembrance Day, November 14th this year, we hope everyone can once more come to the Market Square at about 10am for the service which will commence at 10.15am. There will then be the traditional walk to the War Memorial at the Cemetery in Sandy Road for the continuation of the service at 11am. Full details will be given in next week’s Potton column.

On Sunday evening, we look forward to seeing many of you at the Night Light service this Sunday 7th November at 7.30pm. The theme this month is 'Thanksgiving'.

Please note: Unfortunately, we are unable to hold it in church this month but we will still be holding the service on Zoom ( 432 851 790 Access code 032720)

We hope lots of you can join us from the warmth of your own homes!

As usual this year, St Mary’s will again be hosting the Town’s annual firework and bonfire evening on Friday November 6th, weather permitting. The doors open at 6pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and finally the firework display starts at 7.15pm. Hot and cold food and drinks and BBQ food will be available at reasonable prices so why not come along for another great evening. More details on local posters round the Market Square or on our Facebook page. In the case of inclement weather, the evening will be re-arranged as soon as possible after.

Our group, First Steps, for toddlers and babies, meet regularly in the church hall on a Friday from 9.30am till 11.30am. For full details call Sandy on 01767 260430. The next meeting of the Craft and Chatter group of art and craft enthusiasts, will be on November 12th in the church hall at 7.30pm. Www.facebook.com/craftandchatter for more details.
