The Parable of the Sower
The Friends and Family Garden - the progress will be followed!
Last Sunday morning, saw a good size congregation, many of them children, come along to enjoy another service in our “Friends and Family” series. The theme this month was “the Parable of the Sower”, one of the parables in the book of Matthew in the Bible. The Rev Alex Wheatley conducted an interesting service aimed more at the young people present, to explain why we plant seeds, to help produce the food we eat of course, but sometimes, why not all the seed grows, mainly because it may have fallen on poor soil. The craft part of the service then had the children making colourful seedlings, perhaps some of them with rather too much glue, but the children didn’t seem to mind becoming a bit “sticky”! Also constructed by some of the older members of the congregation, was a nice garden on a large tray, and using sunflower seed, ably demonstrated different reasons why seed did not grow. Over time, we will see the results of good seed, and bad, where some seeds fell on rocky areas or paths where they would not grow well if at all.. We will be following the progress of this garden each week! Next week’s service, on May 8th, will be Holy Communion led by the Rector, the Rev Alex Wheatley.
Annual Parochial Church Meeting
Following the morning service on May 8th, St Mary's Annual Church Meeting (APCM) and the Parishioners' Meeting to elect our Churchwardens for the coming year, will be held. All those on the Church Electoral Roll, are invited to attend and vote on items on the agenda.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend.
By now, everyone in Potton will have received the programme for the Jubilee Weekend, and seen the rôle of St Mary’s Church over those few days. We hope to welcome many people visiting our church during this time.
