The Jubilee Weekend and Pentecost, Get Nearer

In contrast to the previous Sunday with the warm breeze and sunshine, last Sunday found us all setting out to church on a cool, rather drizzly morning. Nevertheless, we had a good congregation at the start of “Christian Aid Week”. For those who don’t know what this is about, it’s how Christians across the UK raise funds by various means, to help Christians in third world countries across the World where living conditions are extreme and when it comes to growing healthy crops for them to eat, in some areas this is almost impossible, and many die from a lack of good food. Christian Aid can help out in these areas and provide such as more suitable seeds to grow crops in very dry conditions, enough for the families affected to survive and become more healthy. Rdr Simon Gutteridge gave an interesting talk on this work and it was followed by a video filmed in Zimbabwe, which the Rev Alex Wheatley presented on our big screen. Raising funds to help these people is essential for them to survive so we would ask that if you see any fund collecting anywhere in Potton, please be generous and put in what you can afford. Thank you! The morning service of Holy Communion was conducted by the Rev Alex who will also give next week’s service.

For those that come to the Parish Lunch, please remember that it is on Friday 20th this month, a week earlier than usual. All back to normal from next month!

A reminder that All Saints Church in Sutton is holding a plant sale this weekend in the Old Rectory Gardens, running from 10am to 4pm, with Cream Teas served on both days. In addition, on Sunday 22nd only, the world famous Duck Race will once more launch on the river at 3pm. Duck tickets will be on sale up until this time. Hundreds of numbered plastic ducks are then released into the river and the first past the post near the ancient Packhorse Bridge, will win the prize money.

All proceeds for the weekend go to All Saints Church, Sutton. For further information, contact Jo Hollington on 01767 261910
