Party on Potton Returns and we have a Special Service in the Big Marquee on Sunday Morning

Much more pleasant weather this week, and there might be some rain on the way, much needed of course. This week we held a Memorial Service for Peter Broad, late of King Street, who passed away recently. Peter was an old soldier having served for many years in the REME and also was the proud owner of a Commando green beret, earned by him because of the work he was doing at the time. He had had a very active career but now he will be sadly missed by his family. The Rev Alex Wheatley conducted a lovely service in his honour and I was honoured to have been there as the Verger for the church, but also representing a local Military Veterans Group which Peter belonged to, and which I am also a member.

On Saturday, we had another “fun” Wedding, Laura and Connor being the bride and groom and wanted to bring a lot of jollity to the occasion and they certainly achieved that. We wish them all the best in their future life.

Party on Potton

We shall be having a St Mary's Stall on Saturday 27 August in the Henry Smith Field as part of Party on Potton.  Please visit us and bring your friends.  You will have the opportunity to win a whale!!! During the day we hope to reach out to the good people of Potton and will invite them to listen to (short) stories from The Open the Book Scheme, and hear Nick play his flute.  There will be a performance from the Open the Book team at the Marquee Service on Sunday 28th August."  Photos of each day, courtesy of the Thompson / Evetts photo team, or anyone else will be most welcome.

Next Sunday, August the 28th, we are combining with other Potton Churches for an ecumenical morning service in the “Party on Potton” big marquee. Everyone is invited to join us, there’s plenty of room so why not come along? The service starts at 11am but there will not be a morning service in St Mary’s Church on that day.

Parish Lunch for August 26th.

Another reminder that it will be the next Parish lunch to support St John's Hospice at Moggerhanger in St Mary's church hall, today, Friday 26th August at 12.45pm and on the last Friday of the month after this. The cost is £8 for a tasty two course meal and payment is taken at the door. Please support this enjoyable event for a very worthwhile cause. Unfortunately, due to rising costs, the price of the lunch will be increased to £9 with effect from the lunch in September. We still need more people to prepare a main course or dessert for the lunch, costs can be re-imbursed. If you can help please contact Jane on 01767 260193 or Judi on 01767 260710. The lunch for July raised £424 which puts us well on course for another bumper donation to St John’s Hospice in the new year.

Friends and Family Service, September 4th 10.30am in St Mary’s Church

After a short break in August, Friends and Family is back next Sunday with their usual style of a service for all ages, with an emphasis this time on the well known Bible Parable story of “Feeding the 5000”. As usual, this will be a fun service but with a serious message so we hope to see many new faces there to join in a very nice service that really does suit all ages!
