Mothering Sunday, plus a Celebration!

The service of Holy Communion was led as usual by our Rector, the Rev Alex Wheatley. In his sermon, Rev Alex spoke of the repression of Christians in the Holy Land by the occupying Roman army and their cruel leaders who would order the execution of Christians to suppress their teachings and leadership. This drew a sharp comparison of the events over the last few weeks, of the suffering of the people of Ukraine, showing that recent events are not new but have happened over many hundreds of years. We prayed on Sunday for an end to the disasters and suffering that we see at this time.

St Mary’s Patronal Festival, Mothering Sunday and a special Anniversary

The Rev Alex will again lead the service of Holy Communion next Sunday, March 27th, but the parishioners from other churches in the Benefice, will also join St Mary’s congregation to celebrate St Mary’s annual Patronal Festival, Mothering Sunday and later, a bring and share event to celebrate the Rev Alex’s first Anniversary of becoming our Rector. Please join us at 10.30am if you are able.

Potton Parish Lunch

This Friday, 25th of March, at 12.45pm, our church hall doors will once again be open, for a sumptuous home cooked lunch prepared by our brilliant team of ladies, to raise much needed funds for St John’s Hospice, Moggerhanger. After this week, the lunch will be on the last Friday of every month, so make a note on your calendars. Please book in on arrival at the door and buy your place at a table for just £8 for a tasty 2 course meal, chosen from our menu, plus tea or coffee. Donated items for our raffle are welcome, but food items, MUST be in date, they will be checked! Cuddly toys are only accepted if clean and in their original packing and gift items must be clean and serviceable. We look forward to seeing many new people there filling our eight tables, so please come along!

Thought for the Day

Nick Wilson, St Mary's Church organist, will present his popular "Thought for the Day" on Friday March 25th, Alan’s Breakfast Show on BigglesFM, 104.8Mhz on the dial. Nick will also remind you of the Parish Lunch of course! Don't forget to tune in!

Regular Church Groups

Just a reminder, we have some regular groups who meet in the church hall.

First Steps a group for babies and toddlers and their mums, meet every Friday morning at 9.30am. Entry is only £2 and includes refreshments, masses of interesting toys to play with and of course plenty of chatter for the mums! Call Sandy on 01767 260430.

Every other Friday ( Potton Green Bin Day) our Craft and Chatter group meet in the church hall at 7.30pm, to work on their craft items, have a good chat and enjoy plenty of home made cake and goodies, all for £3. Call 01767 260792 for more information

The Church Choir meet at 7pm each Thursday for choir practice, new voices always welcome. If you can sing and would like to sing with us, just turn up and have a try out!
