Irish Quiz Night and Hot Irish two course Dinner for St Patrick's Day! Book Now!!

This week was of course, being the first Sunday of the month, our very popular Friends and Family service. This month, there was a really good attendance with quite a few new faces which was very pleasing. The service today was led by Rdr Simon Gutteridge and LLW Dawn Kerridge, and the theme this month was as might be expected, Lent! After two children’s hymns and some prayers, the illustrated talk from Simon and Dawn was all about Jesus’ forty days and nights in the desert, constantly taunted by the Devil, and this was followed by a practical 30 minutes of making things out of paper or colouring printed sheets, all about this famous Bible story. Meanwhile, Morning Prayer was celebrated for the older members of the congregation followed by hot drinks and cake, made by Ros. The hot drinks were very welcome due to the very cold conditions outside, but the church was relatively warm with our overhead heating working well!

Next week’s service will be Holy Communion led by the Rector, The Revd Alex Wheatley but with a talk in lieu of a sermon by a visitor, the Revd Bea Grace, Chaplain to St John’s Hospice at Moggerhanger. As St Mary’s are regular supporters of St John’s Hospice, this should be of great interest to us.

Social Events For the last month or so, we have been advertising our next major event which is a St Patrick’s weekend Irish Quiz and a good two course hot Irish meal, all for £15 per person. Ticket sales have been steady but there are still a good few we would like to sell for an evening of good food and entertainment. Just to remind everyone, the date is Saturday March 18th and the evening starts at 7pm with the quiz, and the Bar will be open! Please bring your friends to make up quiz teams, and enjoy a great evening with us. Call Rosemary on 07753 638278 to book. All proceeds go towards church maintenance.

Thought for the Day on BigglesFM. The next “Thought for the Day” given by our organist, Nick Wilson, will be on March 10th at 8.15am on BigglesFM when the presenter, Alan Waring will once more speak to Nick.
