In your Church this Week, and the Next.

We welcomed back to St Mary’s last Sunday, the Rev Ray Porter one of our retired Priest friends who was standing in for our Rector who was on annual leave. The Rev Ray’s sermons are usually very interesting and his sermon on Sunday was no exception. We will welcome back the Rev Alex Wheatley next Sunday morning with a service of Holy Communion to which prospective church members are cordially invited. In the afternoon at 4pm, The Rev Alex will conduct his first All Souls service with us, a service of Remembrance in which we think of those who have gone before us, but are no longer with us. This is a very warming service, warming our thoughts and memories and lighting a candle in our loved one's memories. All are very welcome to this service and if you would like someone special to be remembered, please add their names to the list in church before the service. The names will be read out during the service.

Our group, First Steps, for toddlers and babies, meet regularly in the church hall on a Friday from 9.30am till 11.30am. For full details call Sandy on 01767 260430 or check out our website or Facebook pages or pick up a copy of our Sunday Link weekly newsletter. This evening, also in the church hall, the Craft and Chatter Group will be meeting once more, so if you have a craft you enjoy, why not come and work on it alongside other like minded people. Entry is £3 which includes refreshments. Plenty of room for new members so why not give it a try? Find us on Facebook for further details. Www.facebook.com/craftandchatter All proceeds to St Mary’s Church funds.

Finally, on October 29th, don’t forget to listen to the Biggles FM Breakfast Show on Friday morning, at 8.15am as Nick Wilson, St Mary’s Church Organist, will once more be the speaker giving his fortnightly Thought for the Day.

A reminder that St Mary’s will be hosting the Town’s annual firework and bonfire evening, this year on November 6th, next Saturday, weather permitting. The doors open at 6pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.45pm and finally the firework display starts at 7.15pm. Hot and cold food and drinks and BBQ food will be available at reasonable prices so why not come along for another great evening. More details on local posters round the Market Square or on our Facebook page. In the case of inclement weather, the evening will be re-arranged as soon as possible after.

Also in November, on the 7th, it is our next Friends and Family service with the theme of Remembrance, and the following week November 14th it is Remembrance Sunday starting in the Market Square at 10.15am and then moving to the War Memorial at the cemetery for the final part of the service. Please come along to help remember Potton’s Fallen Sons of past conflicts and wars.
