Friends and Family to enjoy an Advent theme on Sunday

Our service this morning for the First Sunday in Advent, was a Choral Holy Communion, this week led by a visiting retired priest, the Revd Barbara Ebeling from Biggleswade, a priest we had not met before. There were a good number of people in the congregation who heard an interesting sermon from Revd Barbara about the origins of Advent as the pre-Christmas period and it was well received by those present. Revd Barbara admitted that although she worked within the Biggleswade Deanery before she retired, she had never set foot in St Mary’s Church, Potton before and she did enjoy the experience with us that morning! The singing throughout the service was led by St Mary’s Choir who sang a beautiful setting of “Brother James’s Air” during Communion.

Next Sunday, we are back with our Rector, the Revd Alex Wheatley, who will lead one of our most popular services, the Friends and Family monthly all age service, but mainly aimed at the younger members of our congregation, the children. The theme for the service is Advent so during the children’s workshop part of the service, they will find themselves making Christmas decorations and decorating the church Christmas Tree. If you haven’t yet been to this lovely service, please come along to St Mary’s at 10.30am, with your young children or Grandchildren to enjoy the activities, and our company.

Social Evening Last Saturday evening, there was a good turnout to a “French Banquet Evening” organised by our very talented Social Event Team. The Menu was very authentic and was enjoyed by all present. There was also some French style entertainment of course. More events will follow in the New Year so watch this space!

First Steps toddler and baby group will finish their pre-Christmas Friday meetings on December 9th, and return on the first Friday of the New Year, January 6th.

Just a small reminder that the Parish Christmas Lunch will be held on Friday December 16th at 12.45pm in the church hall as usual. Ticket only, call 01767260193 for availability. Sorry, no ticket, no entry!
