CORONATION WEEK

A bright, warm, sunny morning attracted a smaller congregation last Sunday, maybe the fact that it was a Bank Holiday kept the numbers down a little. But the service was very well enjoyed especially as we had a guest organist, Paul Edwards, this week and he played the music for the two anthems sung by the choir during Holy Communion. The service was led as usual by the Revd Alex Wheatley who spoke of an eventful Vision Day held on Saturday at St John’s church, Cockayne Hatley, which was led by the Revd Paul Davies who came to advise on the way forward for our churches and planning our priorities for the next two years. The day’s proceedings were enjoyed by all who attended.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting, our AGM, was attended by a good gathering immediately after the morning service. During the meeting, the two Churchwardens were re-elected along with the PCC members for the next 12 months, although this year we have a vacancy for one member. We learned that as a church, we are keeping our heads above the water as far as our financial position is concerned although there is a major repair to the bell tower coming along soon which will of course, affect that position for next year. Fund raising events over the next twelve months will help ease the pressure on this.

Christian Aid Week 14—20 May 2023 This is our week when we join in with the rest of the world to raise money for the needy. This is a wonderful International Development Charity determined to end the injustice of poverty.

The Fundraiser Lunch on Sunday May 14 for Christian Aid

Straight after the service there will be a lunch in St. Marys Hall. If you can, please sign up on the sign up sheet at church so we can know numbers, or call Rosemary on 01767 261206. Please bring a donation equivalent to that which you might pay for one of our themed evening's.

Coronation Day, May 6th

This set of timings and detail is slightly amended from those we published last week so we hope you can join us in church for the morning and perhaps enjoy other Potton Town Council led events afterwards. We will be screening the whole morning’s events on our big screen in St Mary’s Church so everyone will get a great view.

0930: Churches open.

1000: Procession: Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey

1100: The Coronation Service. Following the service, there will be a Celebration Drink, served in the Church.

1200: Procession: Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace

After the Balcony Appearance and Flypast, the church hall and field, will be available for all who have brought a picnic. Please do not consume any food in the church but use the hall and field facility afterwards. Tea and Coffee will be served in the hall.

There will of course be no charge by the churches for this event, HOWEVER, attendees are strongly encouraged to bring something to donate into our Preen Food Bank Collection, as they arrive. This will be a prayerful acknowledgment on this historic day that times are tough for many people.
