Advent is now fast approaching, but there will be service differences this year.

This beautiful painting of St Mary's Church in a snowy winter setting, is by local artist, Ian Russell. This picture is used on one of St Mary's Christmas Cards.

The Remembrance Week continued with small gatherings at our Benefice churches on Wednesday, Remembrance Day. In spite of the restrictions placed upon us for the week, Potton and the Benefice still celebrated the Armistice albeit, not in our traditional way!

Sunday’s service went back to our now new tradition, The Zoom linked “Service of the Word” this week led by Paulet Brown-Wilsher. There were 31 connections with 40 people attending. The service next Sunday will be similar again, led by a member of our Lay Team. Details will be on the Sunday Link newsletter which has now been uprated to a double sided sheet giving more news than ever. If anyone would like to be added to the subscription list, please contact by email to the church office.

Very soon we will publish our list of Advent and Christmas services but unfortunately, some of the favourite services always enjoyed during this special period, will this year only be available on line via Zoom. The list will be published soon. However one service that always draws a large congregation will not be held this year due to many difficulties. This is our traditional Midnight Communion on Christmas Eve. There will however, be Christmas services on Christmas Day in each of the Benefice Churches, given by the Archdeacon of Bedford, and we hope many will be able to attend, more details will follow soon.

St Mary’s is open for private prayer on Monday, Thursday and Sunday of each week. Sutton Church is open every day for private prayer also. Please follow the advice given in the churches for visitors regarding Covid-19 restrictions. Possible bookings for weddings, baptisms and funerals may be made by calling the church office on 01767 261202 or email to: benefice.com@gmail.com. The Church Hall is now available for bookings so if you have a future date in mind, please ring 01767 260430 to enquire availability. Bookings are now likely to be subject to the new lockdown and social spacing rules.

Sales of our Christmas cards are going well but we have sold out of the 46 pounds of locally grown walnuts! Details of the cards can be found on our website but they are very reasonably priced at £4 for a pack of ten, five each of a painted scene of the church, and a photograph both showing St Mary’s in a snowy winter setting. Contact David Tall on 01767 261713 to order.

Sunday November 22nd, Christ the King, Sunday next before Advent; There will be no church services allowed under the current lockdown rules. However all services in the Benefice will be replaced with a Zoom ‘Service of the Word’ each week, at 10.30am, until further notice. Please use the previous login details for these services.
