The Week Ahead
Last Sunday, we once again welcomed one of our Lay Team, Rdr David Kilpatrick to conduct our Service of the Word. This follows the same pattern as a service of Holy Communion but without the Communion being served. There were 21 people present for a very interesting service from David. Next Sunday will be a Lay led Zoom on line service at 10.30am, and NightLight at 7.30pm
St Mary’s is open for private prayer on Monday, Thursday and Sunday of each week. Please follow the advice given in church for visitors regarding Covid-19 restrictions. Possible bookings for weddings, baptisms and funerals may be made by calling the church office on 01767 261202.
The Church Hall will soon be available for bookings once more but if you have a future date in mind, please ring 01767 260430 to enquire availability.
The interviews for the vacancy of Rector will take place during the week commencing September 7th. We are praying for a positive outcome this time as the previous session earlier in the year was unable to appoint a suitable candidate to the empty post. There has also been a long delay during the Lockdown period but this time there are two applicants both from outside our area. We hope to bring some good news very soon.
Last Friday morning, our church organist, Nick Wilson gave his “Thought for the Day” on BigglesFM 104.8 on the dial, also with all the latest news from St Mary’s. Nick will next be on air with his Thoughts and other news on September 11th.
The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Historic Church Trust is holding its’ annual Bike and Hike tour of churches old and new in the area, on Saturday 12th September. This is an opportunity for individuals to enjoy a healthy day out in our beautiful countryside, look at some marvellous buildings and raise money for the Trust and their individual church. If you would be interested in this activity, further details are available from David Tall, Secretary to St Mary's PCC, on 01767 261713.
Finally, organisers Hearts for St John’s Hospice, Moggerhanger, supported by St Mary’s Church and led by Judi Hobbs and Christina Boxhall, are helping to raise much needed funds lost during the Corona Virus Pandemic. They continue to sell their tickets for a Grand Raffle which will take place on September 19th at Potton’s next Quarterly Market Day. Tickets, costing £1 or £5 a book, are usually on sale on the Market Square on a Saturday, or some Potton shops. The first prize is £400, sponsored by a generous donor. Please give your help by buying some tickets.
