Floral Tribute to Doreen Mitchell in St Mary's Church, with some of her favourite flowers

On Friday May 22nd, at 8.15am, St Mary’s Church Organist, Nick Wilson will next give his “Thought for the Day” on BigglesFM, 104.8 on the dial. Nick will be calling in by phone with all the latest church news.

Our Zoom service last Sunday nearly didn’t happen. For some reason our group leader, Rdr Simon Gutteridge was unable to open the meeting at 10am and over half the allotted time had gone before we were underway. Even then, there were no pictures of participants but we were able to hear each other. This is our first problem with this system so we hope it was a rare problem that doesn’t recur. We did have 19 connections but it’s difficult to know how many people took part as we couldn’t see them but the estimate was 28. We will do it all over again next Sunday and hope it all works smoothly as before! Any member of St Mary’s who is not on the Sunday Link mailing list and wishes to be able receive instructions to join us in these services, should contact the church office at benefice.com@gmail.com. Next week’s ZOOM service will start at 10am so we hope a few more can join us. Please note there is no telephone service at the church office at this time.

Last Wednesday, many St Mary’s members joined the on-line funeral service for our much loved member, Doreen Mitchell, who passed away at the end of April just two days after her 93rd birthday. Doreen had been in a care home for the last few months and had not been well in her last few weeks and just faded away. She died at the home with her daughter at her bedside. The service was a very nice account of her life given mainly by her son, Paul, who also conducted the service. He is a Lay Reader in his local church. Readings were also given by her daughter Ingrid. There was much of Doreen’s favourite music throughout the service as she was a real lover of good music and was a member of St Mary’s Singers in Potton for many years. We will all miss Doreen but now she Rests in Peace.

Take care now there is some relaxation of the lock down rules, we still need to be careful. We still pray for an end very soon of this crisis in our World.
