This week in the Benefice

Last Friday evening, we held a “Friday the 13th" themed quiz and there was a very good attendance with 8 teams competing for the prize at the end. A hot meal of chilli or goulash, with rice, was served up and most people were able to try both dishes as there was plenty of food for the occasion. The proceeds for the evening as always, go towards church funds. Next month, the Events Team are organising a Shakespearian Evening, to celebrate the Bards birthday.

It was hoped we would be announcing the appointment soon for our new Rector but unfortunately out of the two candidates that applied, one had already found another post and the other one was found not to be suitable and the lady concerned felt the same way. The process now restarts and it will be a few weeks before we know if there any more applicants interested to come and serve us.

Last Sunday Morning, the Rev Margaret Marshall from St Neots, conducted a shorter version of the Holy Communion service but with a slight difference. There are restrictions now placed on all churches by the Bishop, because of the Coronavirus problem, so only the Communion Wafer was given to Communicants, to minimise handling, and only a small token of the Communion Wine was taken by the Priest on behalf of everyone. This will carry on into the future until it is deemed safe to go back to normal. The morning service next Sunday will be Choral Holy Communion led by the Rev Dr Ray Porter from Gamlingay. Each person attending will be given a small posy and Simnal Cake will also be available.

Our First Steps toddler and baby group will be meeting on Friday in the church hall at the usual time of 9.30am. Further details about the group from group leader Sandy on 01767 260430. Morning Prayer services will be held next week, on Tuesday and Friday at St Mary’s, both services at 9am. These services maybe cancelled at short notice if no leader is available. Every Friday afternoon at 2.45pm, a service is held at Sutton Church for all those in the Benefice who want to end the week with quiet prayer and communion with others. All are welcome.

Don’t forget, we are still holding a Lent Housegroup based on the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent book for 2020, “Saying Yes to Life”. The final dates for the course are: March 24th, March 31st and April 7th. To join the group, call 01767 261470.
