This week in the Benefice

November 10, 2019

The weekend at St Mary’s started off with an evening of “Singalong” with the “2Gs” Geoff and Graham from our Church Music Group. They played a good selection of popular music from years gone by and the audience joined in the singing with quite hilarious results. This was a great evening of fun and we have no doubt it will happen again!

On Sunday morning, a service of Holy Communion was conducted by a visiting priest, the Rev Dr Ray Porter, at 9am. This was the only service at the church as the main service of the day was a Service of Remembrance, with St Mary’s joining Potton’s other churches to remember those lost in two World Wars. The service started on the Market Square with a huge gathering of Townsfolk. The walk of Remembrance to the War Memorial at the cemetery then followed and finally the the main act of paying tribute to Potton’s Lost Sons took place. A full report appears on our website and Facebook page.

The service next Sunday morning is our monthly shorter format Holy Communion with the children’s treasure boxes. This service will be conducted by our former Rural Dean, the Rev Canon Lyndsay Dew. All are welcome.

Our First Steps toddler and baby group will be meeting today, in the church hall at the usual time of 9.30am. Further details about the group from Sandy on 01767 260430. Morning Prayer services will be held next week, at  Sutton Church on Thursday, and on Tuesday and Friday at St Mary’s, all services at 9am. These services maybe cancelled at short notice if no leader is available. Every Friday afternoon at 2.45pm, a service is held at Sutton Church for all those in the Benefice who want to end the week with quiet prayer and communion with others. All are welcome.
