Holy Week at St Mary's Church

It has been a joyous week at St Mary’s with the Holy Week services every day. Maundy Thursday evening service was Holy Communion followed by a Passover Supper, just as Jesus would have held for 11 of his Disciples. Good Friday morning was the Potton Churches Together Walk of Witness, the re-enactment of Jesus’ walk on the way to Calvary and his death on the Cross. The procession from the church hall to the Market Square was attended by at least 60 walkers and after prayers in the Square, the procession continued to the Salvation Army for a service of commemoration, where more non-walkers joined in, led by our own Rector, the Rev Gill Smith. Following the service, refreshments including Hot Cross Buns was served to all present.

The main service of the weekend was on Easter Day with a special Easter Communion service led by the Rev Gill and Rdr Simon. During the sermon which Rev Gill gave about the Easter story, the children present were invited to take part in an Easter Egg Hunt in the churchyard. Many eggs were found while supervisor George made sure none were missed! The service was tinged with sadness as this will be the last Easter service that Rev Gill will conduct as she retires and will be leaving us in August.
